What is the Jockey Box and how does a Jockey Box work?
Jockey box is the system that sometimes otherwise called a coil box or cold plate box.
A Jockey Box is a portable cooler that contains all the elements necessary to dispense beer. Our Jockey Box Starter Kit includes the cooler box, 50' SS cooler coil, beer faucet with tap handle, and beer nut wrench. The Jockey Box has connections for the tap handle in the front and a standard beer shank connection in the back to Thread on a beer nut and tail piece for the beer line. This starter kit does not include a CO² regulator, CO² tank or beer line connectors.
The key to a Jockey Box being able to dispense ice cold beer is the coil or cold plate which acts as a flash chiller, meaning that with the use of an ice water bath for a Stainless Steel coil or ice only with an aluminum cold plate, the temperature inside of the box will be maintained and every beer will taste just as refreshing as the last.
After the beer passes through the coil or cold plate located in the cooler box the beer temperature will drop to the ideal dispensing temperature of 38º F. It is the perfect system for large parties or special events such as a family reunion or company picnic. Jockey Box does not require electricity, so it can be set up anywhere. CO² gas is used to pressurized the keg for dispensing.
