A refractometer is a laboratory or field instrument used to measure the refractive index of a substance. This physical value determines how much light bends (refracts) when it passes through a liquid or solution, allowing users to instantly calculate the concentration of dissolved substances. When light enters a liquid, its speed changes, causing it to bend. Refractometers measure this specific angle of deviation (based on Snell's Law). As the concentration of a solute (like sugar or salt) increases, the light bends more. The instrument projects this boundary line onto a calibrated internal scale for the user to read. Product Specs:

How to Use and Calibrate
  1. Lift the plate: Open the clear daylight cover plate over the main prism.
  2. Apply fluid: Place 2–3 drops of distilled water onto the prism surface.
  3. Zero-out (Calibrate): Close the plate, look through the lens, and turn the calibration screw until the boundary line rests exactly at zero.
  4. Test sample: Wipe the prism clean, apply your sample fluid, close the plate, and read the scale interface.
  5. Clean immediately: Clean thoroughly with a soft cloth after use to prevent corrosion or sticky residue.
